T
he Colorado Book Club Resource (BCR) is a collection of around 1,400 sets for book clubs across the state. Each set contains eight or more copies of the book, plus discussion materials, which are loaned out for eight or more weeks at a time. We partner with participating local libraries and use the statewide courier service to provide (for free) the materials book clubs need!

The collection includes titles for all types of book club, from popular book club picks, to works by Colorado authors, trending fiction, fascinating nonfiction, and so much more!
All lending goes through assigned library workers in local libraries/organizations because we use the CLiC courier to transport sets. That means the simplest way for your book club to get set up is to speak to your local library’s Primary Contact first (if one exists). Many libraries across the state already have an account with us that is managed by one Primary Contact (see the map or the full list of locations to determine your nearest participating library).
If your library is not familiar with our service, enrolling is easy! You can also send us an email and we can reach out to your local branch on your behalf, if you prefer. Note, it is the decision of the library whether they take part in the program.
Each library has their own process, but generally once you are connected with your library contact it is as simple as letting them know which set you want and when you want it. The library will coordinate the loan from there.

This map shows active borrowing organizations throughout Colorado (public libraries, schools, colleges, and correctional facilities that are subscribed to the CLiC courier system). You can also view the full list.
The BCR is a program of the Colorado State Library. The collection exists to make it easy for staff at libraries (public libraries, school libraries, correctional libraries, and more) to gather the materials for book clubs. The sets are used for internal library programs or sub-lent to book clubs in the community. A set is loaned out to a book club for eight weeks at a time, plus renewals if no other holds are waiting.
Dedicated library staff members are responsible for managing the loan and returning the set to the State Library using the courier. There is no cost to use the program. Refer to the links below for more information.
Review key information for users (patron library account holders/Primary Contacts).
Many authors love to talk about their work with enthusiastic readers. Engage the tremendous creative talent we have in the state of Colorado by inviting an author to your book club or library event! We have over 175 titles by Colorado authors in the collection! Find out more.
We love to be offered book club sets! The Book Club Resource is a wonderful place to give unwanted book club sets a new lease on life. If you have sets that need a new forever home, first please check we don’t already have the title by searching the catalog. Then, send us an email with the title(s), author, number of copies, and condition. Thank you!
We are currently working with the Marmot Library Network to allow member libraries to include our book club and resource kit records in their catalogs. If you are a Marmot member library that is interested in doing so, stay tuned for updates in Spring 2026!
If you are not a member of Marmot but would like to include our records in your system, you can download the latest batch of MARC records or contact Amy Hitchner. Please note that a library staff member will still need to request our materials (patrons will need to be advised of this dynamic, perhaps, by directing them to a designated webpage).
