Stock Show Begins Today

Today at noon the National Western Stock Show begins with a parade of animals through downtown Denver. Colorado has hosted the Stock Show for more than a century, as it signifies the importance of agriculture to the economy of our state. In fact, the long history of livestock showing can be seen in two historical publications, Judging Livestock and Fitting Livestock for Show, which look back to the practice in the 1920s!

For some interesting facts on livestock in Colorado, see Colorado Livestock from the Colorado Dept. of Agriculture. We have many, many publications in our library that deal with all the particulars of livestock-raising, from diseases to taxes and everything in between, so be sure and check our web catalog using the terms “livestock” or “agriculture.”
