Requirements for Motorcycles and Scooters in Colorado

Now that the weather is warming up, motorcycles and scooters are sharing our roadways. Motorcycles have different risks than cars and trucks, so a special endorsement to a driver’s license is required for Colorado motorcycle operators. You can find out the steps to obtaining a motorcycle endorsement for your license here. Also, be sure to read the Colorado Motorcycle Operator’s Handbook for important safety information. Additional motorcycle safety resources can be found on the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Live to Ride webpage.

Low-power scooters do not require a motorcycle endorsement, but the owner must possess a valid driver’s license and must also obtain a special decal as proof of registration. Requirements for scooter operators can be found here.
