Eleven Mile State Park, located in central Colorado’s South Park region, offers a variety of outdoor activities year-round. The central feature of Eleven Mile State Park is the reservoir that gives it its name. Boating, paddleboarding, fishing, and sailboarding are popular lake activities, while the park also offers hiking trails and backcountry camping. During the winter, cross country skiing, ice fishing, and ice skating are popular activities.
The reservoir’s origins date back to the 1920s, when population growth caused the City of Denver to look around for new water sources. Eleven Mile Canyon Dam was completed in 1932 and expanded in 1957. It is still owned by the Denver Water Department, one of seven Colorado reservoirs that supply water for Denver and the metro area.
