Pigeon has been flying from place to place learning about all of the fabulous fun happening in public libraries all over the state. Curious about where he has been?

The Pigeon learned that the Colorado State Publications Library guides people through state government information. This library is a part of the Colorado State Library and holds historic archives of state publications, including some books and documents from the 1800s! Our team member shrink wrap the books to keep them in better condition and the Pigeon got a little caught up in the machine. Finally, the Pigeon explored all of the historical maps the State Publications Library has, deciding that the middle of the state was the best place to be.
The State Publications Library is open to everyone, including pigeons! You can request materials for borrowing online or in person. Learn more: https://ed.cde.state.co.us/stateinfo

Summer reading season is underway and the Pigeon celebrated at Colorado Talking Book Library’s summer reading kickoff party. The Colorado Talking Book Library is a part of the Colorado State Library that provides library services to any Coloradans who are unable to read standard print because of a visual, physical, or reading disability.
Dinger from the Colorado Rockies was there along with LB, the seeing eye dog mascot of the CTBL. The Pigeon explored different booths, collecting free seeds for a summer garden and enjoyed some delicious froyo. It was the ideal party to celebrate summer reading. The Pigeon got dangerously close to a T-Rex skull at the local Fort Morgan Library & Museum before joining LynnDee’s Family Storytime. Every Tuesday and Thursday, kids from across the city come for music, play, dancing, and stories. The Pigeon joined in, much to the joy (and confusion) of some kids, but they eventually warmed up to the Pigeon, who joined their craft time and colored some baseball-themed pictures.

The Pigeon began a journey around the state by meeting some prehistoric friends at the Englewood Public Library – Englewood, Colorado. Dinosaurs took over the library for the summer reading program: Un-Earth a Story! Children of all ages can participate in the summer reading program, attend events, and collect prizes by reading all summer long. The Pigeon started summer reading by reading a classic: “The Pigeon HAS to Go to School!”

The Pigeon met some remarkably bright creatures at Kiowa County Public Library. Some of the creatures included a colorful octopus, a tactile owl, and a fun-loving dinosaur. The Pigeon felt inspired by all the creatures and checked out a Colorado Parks and Wildlife pass to visit state parks and see what other animals are out there. What a great discovery to see that you can check out more than books from the library!
