Talking Book Library Named Network Library of the Year

The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped has named the Colorado Talking Book Library as Network Library of the Year. The award, which comes with a $1,000 prize, was presented today at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. It recognizes excellence, innovation and special achievement in providing library service during the calendar year to individuals who are blind or have a physical disability.

The Colorado Talking Book Library was commended for its work with more than 200 volunteers, who contributed 25,000 hours last year in patron services, to supplement the work of the library’s staff. The library, which has more than 7,200 individual and organizational patrons, has achieved at least a 98 percent patron satisfaction score since 2004. CTBL volunteers have recorded 256 books of regional interest to add to the national NLS collection, and the library last year partnered with the U.S. Department of State to host official visitors from Ukraine and Egypt.
