The Friday Grab Bag is a weekly series that highlights fun, unique, and interesting happenings in Colorado libraries, and includes news from the Colorado State Library. Let’s open the Friday Grab Bag!

Library Events & Programs

Making it Great

Lone Cone Library is offering several exciting programs this month: beginning on February 12 they will host a 4-week Writing Workshop with author Craig Childs. Then on February 15 they will continue a Weekly Choreography Class to create a dance for the Taylor Swift song Fearless. The class runs through March 1. Finally, the Library invites everyone to a cooking class, Understanding and Making Kimchi, on February 21.

Pitkin County Library’s ongoing Bookbinding program will tackle Multi-Signature Long Stitch Binding at their next meeting on February 15 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Materials will be provided by the Library on a first come, first served basis.

Mesa County Libraries’ Filmmaker’s Workshop is a monthly exploration of topics related to all types of video production. Their next meeting is February 21 at the 970West Studio.

Learn the art of Cold Forging brass into fun new shapes by hammering, stamping, doming, and dapping. Pueblo City-County Library District is offering the class at Rawlings Branch on February 15.

Salida Regional Library welcomes middle schoolers to their Zine Making Workshop on February 20 at 4:00 pm. This is the first event in a 4-part series that will explore the creative and multidimensional art of zine making and sharing.

At Poudre Libraries’ Dry Soup Workshop you’ll learn how to create shelf-stable soups that suit your taste and lifestyle, and leave with your own soup mix in a mason jar. Register to attend at Harmony Library on February 19 at 6:00 pm.

Fully Engaged

Bemis Public Library invites you to An Evening with Louis Armstrong as portrayed by historical re-enactor Marvin Jefferson on February 25 at 6:30 pm. The performance is presented in partnership with Colorado Humanities’ Black History Live Tour.

Summit County Library is offering a World-Building Workshop with Polly Holyoke on February 21 at the North Branch. Teen authors will learn tips and engage in exercises to help them create vivid new worlds for their readers.

High Plains Library District is hosting a Mad Hatter Tea Party at the LINC Innovation Center on February 15. Guests will enjoy a spot of tea and some unbirthday cookie decorating followed by the Queen of Heart’s Indoor Garden Party.

Aurora Public Library is throwing a Reading Party for adults on February 15 at The Parkside Eatery. Discover new favorites and share what you’ve been reading during this afternoon of conversation with fellow book lovers.

Spanish Peaks Library District’s annual Seed Exchange is February 16 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Bring your leftover seeds to swap or pick out something from the new seed library.

Discover A History of Fruit in Colorado, including the people and events that shaped Palisade, Rocky Ford, and more. Westminster Public Library is offering this companion program to One Book Westminster on February 17 at 6:30 pm.
