CHNC Comes to Marmot

We are excited to announce that in December 2020, libraries that are part of the Marmot Library Network and Marmot’s Colorado discovery partners will enjoy access to MARC records for all 400+ (and counting) Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) titles in the shared Pika discovery layer, where they will be available for search and discovery.

CHNC’s Veridian platform offers intuitive functionality that easily allows users to search by full text, browse and save newspaper articles, and more. However, many patrons aren’t aware of the CHNC and its research potential (as well as how fascinating and entertaining old newspapers can be), and may not realize that lots of historic newspapers are available to them at the click of a button. Making CHNC titles available to patrons in Pika along with your library’s physical and electronic collections makes this (free!) resource more visible to patrons, from an interface they are already familiar with. Each CHNC MARC record contains a link to the specific title on the CHNC platform from which users can search within the title, browse available issues, and explore related titles.

If you are not part of the Marmot Library Network, but would like to add MARC records to your library catalog, we’ve got you covered. The Colorado State Library’s CHNC MARC record database makes it easy for you to search for and retrieve full, title-level MARC records for all titles currently represented in the CHNC collection that are ready to be added to your catalog.
