Coloradovirtuallibrary.org is a website run by staff members of the Colorado State Library (CSL is part of the Colorado Department of Education) and made possible with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The Colorado Virtual Library website includes news and information on CSL’s programs and services, as well as blog posts on a broad range of library related topics. Read the state law that established CVL in the Colorado Revised Statutes.
No. We consider these types of requests to be spam. Any spam we receive is simply ignored. Repeated spam requests (“following up”) are repeatedly ignored. 🙂
We always love to hear from you! We occasionally feature guest posts from current Colorado library workers. Feel free to drop us a line if you have a good idea, or if your library has an event or service you would like us to mention in the Friday Grab Bag.
While we often get questions about various legal issues, our staff is not qualified to give any sort of legal advice, although we may be able to direct you to the right place to ask your question.
For example, questions about animal boarding will be directed to the Colorado Department of Agriculture, whereas questions about water rights and well permits can be answered by Colorado’s Decision Support Systems. For legal research, refer to the Colorado Supreme Court Library website.
We often get questions related to genealogy and history in general and we do our best to answer them, but sometimes these questions fall out of our areas of expertise. We will likely direct you to good sources of information for historical research, such as our own free-to-use databases: the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection, the Plains to Peaks Collective, and the Colorado State Publications Library.
Beyond those, we encourage you to utilize local historical societies and reference librarians, as they will undoubtedly have resources for most types of research. Genealogy and western history questions can be directed to Denver Public Library’s Genealogy, African American and Western History Resources. Also, History Colorado is a great place to perform historical research on a wide variety of local issues.
There is no such thing as a statewide library card issued by the Colorado State Library. However, you might be interested to learn about Colorado Libraries Collaborate (CLC), which is Colorado’s reciprocal borrowing program. Also, be aware that all Colorado residents may apply for a card with the Denver Public Library.
