Slide text: From Isolation to Conversation: Talking with the community Jamie LaRue, in video in corner of slide: Here is just a teaser for a series of webinars we will be doing here in the future. Cut to: Alysa Selby, Bud Werner Library. Alysa Selby: You know, being a new director, faced with the new reality, I don't want to throw darts at possible solutions to restore foot traffic or a love of books. I am keenly interested in understanding my community, its needs, and how to decide what's next for our institution. Slide text: Community Interview Process Overview. Step 1: Plan. Who? When? How? Step 2: Interview. Key people, Location, Recording. Step 3: Analyze & Use. Analyze, Share, Plan change. Jamie LaRue, in video in corner of slide: The introduction here to this process is we will be doing three webinars. Step 1 is how to plan. Who will be conducting the interviews, when will we conduct them, how do we do the interview? Step 2: Who are the key people that are doing the interviews, where do they take place, how do you record and capture this information? And our third webinar will focus on the actual use of this data--how do you analyze it, how do you share it back to the community, and how do you use it to plan change. Cut to: Brenda Marshall, Pine River Public Library. Brenda Marshall: So, we decided we wanted to really work on our strategic plan. We didn't want to get carried away with all our good ideas, which I have to tell you are fantastic. But we wanted to listen to our community what ideas that they had. And we're kind of painfully aware that although just over 50 per cent of our community did vote for our mill levy, there is a very large section of our community who did not. So we decided to follow this plan, and it's actually pretty simple and pretty straightforward. It wasn't very overwhelming. Cut to: Nancy Trimm, Bemis Public Library Nancy Trimm: We felt isolated and cut off from our community due to the pandemic and our diminished hours, and we felt that they, also, felt the same way. We wanted to understand what our community's concerns were, and as a result of the interviews be able to identify how we could add value to the community. Slide text: Join All Workshops.
