The Resource Sharing Task Force met for the second time on April 20, 2016. (Learn more about this group.)
Members reported on progress in three key areas of need that were identified by the group during our first meeting in January 2016:
1. Resource Sharing Clearinghouse
The clearinghouse will be a statewide platform for sharing all kinds of resources, from policies and procedures to programming ideas. Clearinghouse working group members have met twice, and and we will meet again in May to review the site in development. We plan to start identifying topic moderators and content contributors by late summer, with the site slated to go live this fall. RSTF members agreed that having a solid communication plan will increase buy-in and make the project more sustainable in the long-term.
2. Shared Digital Collection
Many RSTF members expressed an interest in a shared digital collection during our January meeting. The State Library is currently exploring a national ebook project, Library Simplified, and its associated app, SimplyE. We will continue keeping RSTF members updated on any news associated with this potential partnership.
3. Sharing Culture: Spotlight on Sharing
While libraries excel at sharing with their patron communities, RSTF members would like to see more sharing across formal and informal professional networks. To address that need, the State Library has started the Spotlight on Sharing initiative, which aims to increase the visibility of resource sharing happening in Colorado libraries. It includes a blog series, webcasts, and social media outreach. Read more about Spotlight on Sharing.
Resource Sharing Summit
Finally, RSTF members discussed a future resource sharing summit, and several members volunteered to be part of the planning committee. The summit will let us have a larger conversation with practitioners and thought leaders in Colorado about library resource sharing. More details about the summit will be available this summer.
