Making & Creating
Pikes Peak Library District is halfway through a four-part series on Basic Robotics. Each week, teens and adults learn to build and code increasingly complex robots. The remaining two classes are October 7 and 14 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at Library21c. Registration is required. Thanks to Liz Willhoff for sharing this program!
Knit Night returns to Vail Public Library on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month, beginning October 9 at 5:30 pm. Knitters of all abilities are encouraged to join the group.
Literacy & Education
One Valley, One Card is a new program for students in Eagle County Schools. The school district has partnered with Eagle Valley Library District and Vail Public Library to provide every student seamless access to their local public libraries simply by using their student ID number.
High Plains Library District’s On the Road to Reading Early Literacy Fair is October 11 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Stop by the Carbon Valley Regional Library anytime during the event to enjoy fun, interactive activities based on the 5 Practices of Every Child Ready to Read: Read, Write, Sing, Talk and Play.
The Great Outdoors
Get in shape for the slopes with Pre-Ski Season Yoga at Pine River Library, Wednesdays from October 18 through November 8 at 6:00 pm. Instructor Colleen Theobold will lead this 4-week course on simple yoga poses and mindfulness techniques that can help reduce injuries and build strength. Register online.
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers will be at Garfield County Libraries’ New Castle Branch on October 13 at 1:00 pm to present Dare to Explore, a program that includes hands-on classes, games, and gear demonstrations aimed at getting kids excited about the outdoors.
Teens can delete their overdue fines at Bud Werner Memorial Library during Teen Read Week, October 8-14. Just stop by the library to make those fines vanish!
Ignacio Community Library is seeking submissions for their Teen Art Show. Artwork will be exhibited for one month at the library. Submit an application.
Brewing Up Fun
Jefferson County Public Library launched Stouts and Stories, Ales and Tales, a six week celebration of Jefferson County beer and books with special events, tap parties, contests, prizes and a passport beer tour. Learn more about the series.
Libraries in the News
Congratulations to the Marketing & Communications Team at Poudre River Public Library District for earning an Honorable Mention in Library Journal’s 2017 Marketer of the Year Award. The team was recognized for their 2016 “Brewin’ Up Books” campaign to promote the Fort Collins Book Fest. The campaign included collaborating with local businesses to create and name special brews, like Bean Cycle Roasters’ Book Buzz 641.3373.
